The additional gears reduce the engine`s increase in revs each time you change gear, guaranteeing low noise and increased efficiency. Gear changes are virtually imperceptible. This is a first in conjunction with an eight-speed automatic transmission. E.g., as soon as the vehicle stops at a traffic light, the engine switches off automatically and the transmission remains in the desired position. Give the command to move off, and the electric motor starts the engine and the connection to the gearbox is restored. This reduces fuel consumption and emissions in city traffic in particular. Good news for your fuel bills and good news for the environment.

Simply press a button to activate the air-conditioning control remotely. It takes around three minutes to cool the interior from extremely high temperature. Thanks to the electric air-conditioning compressor, this can be done without starting the engine, and is virtually silent. As soon as the engine is started, very cool air reduces the temperature to what is plesant.

Additional torque is needed for acceleration, particularly for spontaneous overtaking. This is where the electric motor`s best feature comes in: high torque that’s there from the first rev. If the accelerator receives a command for sudden thrust, the electric motor is activated in addition to the BMW TwinPower turbo. This guarantees an immediate increase in torque of up to 160 Nm. The additional power is then carried directly tot the drive wheels via the eight-speed automatic transmission, making the BMW ActiveHybrid 7`s acceleration noticeably more dynamic.

By using the electric motor as a generator, e.g. Touch the brake pedal and the hybrid management system uses the pressure on the brake pedal to calculate the optimal interaction between the electric motor and the conventional braking system. The electrical assembly thus ensures the required braking effect. And charges the high-performance lithium-ion battery with up to 15,000 watts at the same time. The vehicle`s disc brakes are also activated as support.

An ingenious cooling system selects the right cooling strategy for every climate and driving situation, ensuring the greatest efficiency with reliable storage and energy supply as fast as lighting. The integrated control unit constantly calculates current charge and the available power – the stored driving pleasure, which can be called upon for purely electric driving, or to actively support the BMW TwinPower Turbo.

Mode 1 is designed to provide traction when starting the engine and at low speeds. The electric motor single-handedly and confidently plays out its advantages – linear power development and high torque from the first rev. To increase power, the BMW TwinPower Turbo is also engaged. At high speeds, the internal combustion engine does most of the work. The electric motors provide support only in mode 2, where each supplies the other with energy. With its Boost function and Brake Energy Regeneration system, the two-mode active transmission is the key to increased efficiency and even greater driving pleasure – at any speed.
